Echoes Revisited

Having recently launched our Legacy page, we're revisiting some significant messages from our journey so far. Whilst originally broadcast on 7th July 2019, the wisdom in these talks is timeless and as life-changing as ever.

This clip from Parenthood shows how childhood experiences can create echoes that we must address if we want to avoid repeating them.

Unless we are conscious of the moments that have shaped us, we'll continue to follow the path they've set us on. Chris introduces how we can pinpoint what we need to address.

"Most of your reactions are echoes from the past. You do not really live in the present."
"Pain that is not transformed is transmitted."

Danny shares how an innocuous comment from his childhood has echoed through his life and why we sometimes allow those echoes to linger.

Our hearts each have a history and often they bear the scars of past trauma. Jenny tells the story of how one of the echoes in her life was created.

Willy Wonka thinks back to his childhood and the echoes that shaped his feelings towards families.

"People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them." James Baldwin

We are all addicted to different types of negative thinking, the seeds of which were most likely planted years ago. Anth leads us to understand how we can overcome this and find healing.

As this clip from Despicable Me demonstrates, the way we approach life in the present is often being influenced by the echoes of past events.

Jenny shares a powerful testimony of how she's recognised that the circumstances of her childhood have created enduring echoes in how she faces the challenges of life.

"If trauma can be passed down throughout the generation, then so can healing."

The good news about our echoes is that we can be free of them and Chris explains how we can find that freedom.

"Freedom is the awareness of alternatives and the ability to choose."

Whatever the story of your life has been so far, there is hope to be found when we acknowledge the echoes that are influencing our lives and soften our hearts to the truth that there are better ways of seeing the world.

Let's begin the journey of putting our finger on what our echoes are so that we can rewrite this story.

"Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach." Clarissa Pinkola Estes
