Tired of Religion? So are we!
Q Church in York is a city centre church on a spiritual quest:
a quest for honesty, for authenticity and for a faith that makes more sense.
A faith that runs deeper than mere beliefs, more a new way of believing as we discover a more beautiful gospel!
Made for spirituality, we wallow in introspection.
Made for joy, we settle for pleasure.
Made for justice, we clamour for vengeance.
Made for relationship, we insist on our own way.
Made for beauty, we are satisfied with sentiment.
But a new creation has already begun. The sun has begun to rise.
We are invited to leave behind, in the empty tomb of Jesus Christ,
all that belongs to the brokenness and incompleteness of our world...
That, quite simply, is what it means to be Christian:
to follow Jesus Christ into the new world, God's new world,
which he has thrown open before us.

Our Quest
Care towards the physical, emotional and psychological needs of people whenever we are confronted with them, within our capacity and capability to help – WHY?
Because people are always precious!
Education and encouragement towards spiritual growth, specifically expressed through our ongoing revelation of the ungodlike god, the abba of Jesus – WHY?
Because mature spirituality enables people and communities to thrive as originally intended!
A determination to remain the icebreaker, creating an unconventional, counter culture pathway amidst the icebergs of religions of all shapes and sizes – WHY?
Because religion has put people in bondage and we want freedom!
We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, widowed, gay,
confused, filthy rich, comfortable or dirt poor. We welcome wailing babies and excited toddlers. We welcome you whether you
can sing like Pavarotti or just
growl quietly to yourself. You’re welcome here if you’re just browsing, just woken up or just
got out of prison. We don’t care if you’re more Christian than the Archbishop of Canterbury or haven’t been to church since Christmas ten years ago.
We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet and to teenagers who are growing up too fast.
We welcome keep-fit mums, football dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers,
vegetarians, junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted.
We welcome you if you’re having problems, are down in the dumps or don’t like ‘organised religion’. (We’re not that keen on it either!)
We offer a welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell or are here because Granny is visiting and wanted to go to church! We welcome those
who are inked, pierced, both or neither.
We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down their throat as kids or got lost in the city centre and wound up here by mistake.
We welcome pilgrims, tourists,
seekers, doubters... and YOU!
