New Year, New You?

In our first get-together of 2024 we explore the idea of New Year's resolutions and the often quoted phrase: New Year, New You!

Beth began with a review of the highs and lows of 2023.

In this clip from the podcast Best Friend Therapy, two friends share how the reality of life is often quite different to the polished lives presented on social media.

Clare shares how her Christmas didn't quite pan out as expected and how embracing the reality of each moment might help us find the contentment we're looking for.

Clare shared this quote...

"I won't let this moment pass me by, embrace the moment."

Referencing Alan Watts, the apostle James and Japanese culture, Kev explores the joy of becoming and some suggestions that might help us continue to grow and truly have a happy new year!

"You have absolutely no obligation to be the same person you were 5 minutes ago." Alan Watts

Joel explores their origins of New Year's resolutions from various cultures, and how our resolutions can be both noble and toxic, depending on how we approach them. Sharing observations, insights and strategies for how we can create new ways of living fully, Joel points out the pitfalls we can easily fall into as we begin a new year.

Joel referred to a previous talk about emotions. You can find that here.

"Don't shame yourself into change, but nurture and love yourself into evolution."

Jim Carrey achieved the heights of wealth, fame and celebrity. He now reflects on how he lost himself along the way and the journey he's taken to find wholeness.

Danny wraps up the morning by inviting us to consider how letting go of some long held issues might help reveal a newness that was already within us.

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are." Carl Jung
