Why did the armadillo cross the road? - Highlights from Sunday 16th May 2021

Over the past month we have been on a journey to free us from restrictive, concrete beliefs and release us into a dynamic faith that helps us get from where we are, to where we need to be.

Like the armadillo and chameleon in this movie clip, we're all looking for something and thirsty for purpose, but are we willing to go through the process to get to that "other side"?

No-one can walk away from their own story, but we spend much of our time trying to rather than accepting it and seeking enlightenment.

"My purpose is that you may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that you may have the full riches of complete understanding in order that you may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowing." This is enlightenment!

We use movie clips because they tell stories that can help us understand our own stories. In Frozen 2 Elsa discovers the lies and traumas from the past that have shaped the frozen present of her world. We too can find ourselves stuck and frozen when our past remains unresolved and we have a faulty understanding of our origins. If you start with ‘perfect’, not only are you being dishonest to the Genesis story, but there’s only one way things can go! perfection – us – fall. With integrity and honesty to the narrative the trajectory changes to good – us - grow! This changes our existence from the accusation we were destroyers of, to the revelation that we are co-creators with.

For us to be restored, we must allow the river of life, freedom and enlightenment to flow, but as this clip demonstrates, this may require something to be dismantled that has been built to contain that river and may have stood for so long.

What stops us from dismantling the spiritual dams and sanitised swimming pools of religion and legalism? It may be the risk of the river. As Anth said "The problem with rivers is they drive you round the bend!"

Jesus said "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink and whoever believes (has Christ consciousness) in me, from within his innermost being will flow rivers of living water."

We were designed to be co-creators with Christ in this world, as the writer of Colossians declared:

"So then, if with Christ you've put all that pretentious and infantile religion behind you, why do you let yourself be bullied by it "Don't touch this, don't taste that, don't go near this." Do you think things that are here today and gone tomorrow are worth that kind of attention? Such things sound impressive if said in a deep enough voice. They even give the illusion of being pious, humble and ascetic, but they're just another way of showing off, making yourself look important. I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God, then you will have minds confident and at rest, focussed on Christ, God's great mystery, all the richest treasures of wisdom and knowing are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else and we've been shown the mystery."
