The Physics of The Quest - Part 2 - Highlights from Sunday 2nd May 2021

We continued our exploration into the Physics of The Quest, a term taken from the movie Eat, Pray, Love, which explains what is required to live a life seeking truth:

"In the end, I've come to believe in something I call "The Physics of the Quest." A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you're brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you."

We began our time together with this great song "A Brand New Day" and as the song says...you owe it to yourself to check it out!

This clip from Eat, Pray, Love has been our inspiration over the past few weeks introducing the term, The Physics of The Quest...

Anth explained how over the past season of life he's had a crisis of belief, but not a crisis of faith. Jesus is said to have asked the question "When the son of man comes, will he find faith in the Earth?" As Anth explains, our current beliefs are what actually hold us back from a dynamic, life-changing faith being formed in us.

Moving from static beliefs to a dynamic faith takes bravery as it requires us to take a step into the unknown.

In this clip from Smallfoot we join the questioning crew of the Smallfoot Evidentiary Society as they discover that their faith in the existence of the smallfoot was justified! As they share their discovery with the village, the questions start to flow!

Migo, the inquisitive Yeti in the movie Smallfoot, discovered that society doesn't tend to like those that question the status quo and he was banished from the village for daring to question their laws, written in stone. We've had a similar experience as a community as we've dared to question the conventional narrative of Christianity!

The danger of static beliefs is that they separate us into "us and them", "believers and unbelievers" and fear can rule our lives. The Yetis in the Smallfoot movie had lived in fear for years and created a cloud of mist to hide the reality of the world beyond their village. Once the mist was cleared, however, they had to bravely step into a new world, embracing the mystery of new relationships, a new world and a future based on trust and faith, rather than rules.

How many of our beliefs are set in stone? From what we think about ourselves when we look in the mirror, to the conclusions we've come to about society, relationships and each other our beliefs can limit the freedom that we were born to experience.

In order to clear the clouds and see the world beyond what they always knew, the yetis had to break the glass and turn a key. What's the "glass" that needs breaking in your life before you can start the process of breaking free from the restrictive beliefs you have and seeing the issues you're facing clearly?

We are often held back in our quest for freedom by an unanswered question:

"Who am I if I'm not the person who believes what I do now?"

Our response must be: "I am not my beliefs."

We must be brave today, be willing to challenge the beliefs that are holding us back, accept the truth of who we are and who we could be and forgive what has been and gone.

"If we continue to hold onto our beliefs rather than embrace, by faith, the dynamic of a new day and a new way, we'll return to the fear, separation and judgement of our old ways."

As we continue our quest together we'll continue to see that Love Wins.
